I’m doing the confession a little bit early this week for reasons that’ll soon be obvious. Confession: I haven’t been feeling too hot since about Thanksgiving. I finally went to the clinic Friday morning, went straight to the surgeon for one procedure, and by this time tomorrow (Monday), I will have evicted a very ornery gall bladder. So. Deadlines shot all to hell, website updates suspended (expect disruption), and it’ll be pretty quiet around here until one thought can follow another without veering off into la-la land. Not that they ever can, but still. Happy St. Paddy’s, everyone.

Okay, so I finally have a date when we can expect things to start going a little haywire due to site updates: March 16. This is the day stuff transfers from one host to the other. I hope there won’t be any disruption but… Yeah. We all know better, right? Also, it’s confirmed that the forums as we’ve known them are toast. I do apologize for this, but if you only knew what a headache it was to NOT own the content on there and have to kiss a certain company’s filter’s backside all the time? Oi. We’ll have way more fun on the forums once we’ve moved house. Bad… Read More

I never really understood irrational fear until two years ago, when I happened across a picture on one of the I Can Has Cheezburger blogs. It showed a foot sporting a pedicure with long toenails. I wigged. (And no, don’t even ask me to post a link. I’d rather punch a kitten in the face than go looking for that picture.) To this day, in the summer, you won’t catch me looking lower than someone’s knees, just in case they might have froufrou toenails.

Another heads up: Looking ahead to when FH 1-9 are bundled for print, Joy and I are planning to experiment a bit with covers. I don’t know yet how soon these tests will happen. Just don’t be alarmed by any changes; the books aren’t being pirated or anything. We really are messing around with the cover art. Also, I want to talk about something that’s been making me feel kinda’ bad/guilty, lately. I figured I’d talk about it here on the blog instead of private emails so that everybody knows my two-part review policy, and will hopefully understand why these two policies are in place. First, I do not respond… Read More
Continue ReadingHeads Up
A heads-up for visitors: Behind the scenes, some changes will be made to the site over the next several weeks. This could mean interruptions in service, wild variations in navigation and appearance, and other forms of general chaos INCLUDING a possible Armageddon-shaped revamp of the forums. If you subscribe to the blog feed, I’m trying to make sure that stays as un-disrupted as possible, for as long as possible, but the address will change by the time all is said and done. I will keep everyone as updated as possible while we work through the overhaul.
Continue ReadingChairman of the NOT Bored
Does anyone else have one of those months where it seems like every day is either someone’s birthday or there’s some major event going on? For me, March is that month. Bring on the cake. Hold the huge snowstorm, si vous plais. (Yeah, I’m posting about birthdays and weather. In other words, there’s not much of interest going on around here other than deadline pressure and cake-scented daydreams. Maybe I should start a petition in favor of delaying all communication with the outside world until I’ve had coffee. Probably two cups.)

CONFESSION: I use cartoony covers for FH because, during early development, I thought the series/serial format would work sorta like comic books. I’ve never written — and never will write — a superhero fantasy because of the laugh-until-your-sides-and-face-ache editing sessions where we dreamed up ‘sexual superhero’ powers for all the characters.
Continue ReadingTwenty Degrees of Gray
You know it’s been a long winter when it hits twenty degrees outside and everyone starts acting like it’s summer. This was my view for much of yesterday afternoon: It. Was. Awesome. [Dog is German short-hair pointer (definite) / chocolate lab (we think) mix. And yes he is wearing a Gentle Leader walking harness which, by the way, is a miracle straight from the gods.]
Continue ReadingSpoiler Warning
I often have to point people toward the Fantasy Heights forums for stuff, and just as often hear that they had no idea the forum even existed. So, obviously this post is to let people know that yes, there are forums. But before you visit, please understand that there are spoiler posts in abundance. Most of them are very clearly marked, so be mindful of anything with the very prominent ***SPOILER*** in its heading. Also, today I posted two deleted scenes from ATQM. I know a lot of writers find this sort of thing interesting, so there’s a heads up for y’all. Deleted scenes are listed here: Episode 1.8 thread

To be clear, today I post as an ebook reader, not a writer. And there is whining AND tantrum-ish negativity involved. You might want to avert your eyes. Dear Major Publishing House’s eBook Designer: Stop putting huge gaps between paragraphs. They are unnecessary. I know what an indent means. I don’t need the forty-mile drive to the next paragraph to tell me a change is about to occur. Also, all the additional screen refreshes drain my device’s battery life. Bad. Bad, bad, bad. Bad. Don’t make me tell you again. That is all.
