Authors and editors, lend me your ears: I read a lot. I love books, and I love stories. Now, before I get into the following rant, let’s get something straight. I am not perfect. I have my strengths and weaknesses as an author. As an editing team, Emma and I never catch every problem. We follow up with a beta team in an attempt to catch issues in mechanics, continuity and whatever else, and we STILL don’t catch every problem. Mistakes and issues embarrass the shit out of me, and I’ve been embarrassed a lot over the years, okay? So I’m not speaking from a position of superiority, I’m speaking… Read More

Kaboom

Rather a lot more excitement around here yesterday than I’d really like; major storms, power out for 8 hours. Parts of town STILL have no power after 14+ hours. /wince One good thing did come of it, however. My children will never again mock me when I tell them they had better get their phones on the charger in case the weather gets as bad as the forecast says. And now to take advantage of all this glorious electricity to get some revisions done… Have a great Monday!

Um, Canada?

Lots of progress last week. Cross your fingers that continues this week. And damn, Canada… Is the entire country on fire or something? Y’all’s smoke is killing my eyes. (I can’t even imagine what it must be like up there, seeing how things have been all the way down here.) Anyway, happy Monday! Have a great week.

Zooooom

Okay, so the good news: I have 49 whole minutes remaining in the office today. The bad news: I think I had a TOTAL of 49 minutes to work on writing-related things last week. I promise things will slow down after this week, and that we’ll make progress. I’m sorry Pressure is taking so long. This single-parent-but-not-single-just-husband-is-on-the-road-like-ALL-the-time thing truly sucks. Sexy man minions. I need sexy man minions… Manions?

Oh Come On, Minnesota

So it’s decided to be winter again here in Minnesota. I’m sure you can picture the look on my face now that we’ve got snow in the forecast tonight. (Posts like this are the reason the “Recreational Complaining” category exists on this blog.) On the other hand, I’m about to edit a Josh scene. So I’ve got that going for me. Which is nice. Have a great Monday!

Long Strange Vacation

So I forced myself to take an entire three-day weekend off; Mostly because Mr. Silver was home, but also because I had those days off from das day job, and I can’t even remember the last time I wasn’t working at one job or other. The vacation itself felt great — lots of cleaning, laundry, and otherwise sleeping my face off — but now that I’m back I feel like I’ve entered an office abandoned over a thousand years ago. This morning I’m gathering clues trying to figure out what went on in this place, and what this office’s mysterious owner was trying to accomplish. And then I remember the… Read More

Not-That-Wild West

You may have noticed the lack of posting around here. I’m sorry about that. With Mr. Silver on the road, I am stretched thinner than a photo-shopped model. Here’s a short list of updates: The New Girl AUDIO is complete and should start popping up next weekend-ish. Thank you Audrey! Das Editor gifted me with Pressure‘s revision notes yesterday. I’m sure I’ll get started on those just as soon as the bleeding stops. (Holy shit, I pay someone to be that mean?) It’s highly probable that a novella will beat Pressure through the editing queue. More about that once the dust settles ’round here. Have a great weekend!
