Joy is so weird sometimes. Here’s her Small Triumphs submission.

Today I launch a project that got sidelined back in August as yet another thing I wouldn’t have time to handle once Mr. Silver moved eight hours away. The project is called SMALL TRIUMPHS. Basically, you tell me your good news using this page, and I post it as a word-pic, like the one seen above. (Those of you who’ve had to listen to me bitch about the weather all winter will know why that’s such a big deal to me.) Clearly, this does not have to be earth-shattering news. It just has to be GOOD news, and I think everyone understands why this is important. We all get so… Read More

Another Monday, another snow storm. Could someone please force-feed Mother Nature her meds? Or maybe just… force-choke her? I kid, I kid. Anyway, due to President’s Day, I’ve got kids home from school, so I’m a bit scattered. Tomorrow, though, I’m going to launch something that — quite ironically — got sidelined last July when I found out Mr. Silver would have to move to Milwaukee. Maybe it’ll amount to something, maybe it won’t, but I want to give it a whirl anyhow. More on that tomorrow. Off to write until teenagers take over the asylum.

Thanks to deadlines, I’m pretty sure I’ll forget to post this later in the week. Here it is, several days early, just in case. For those of you wondering where the Calais County series came from, it started with this article both Emma and I read last year about (dubious) origins of Valentine’s Day.. More specifically, the idea came from this paragraph: The brutal fete included a matchmaking lottery, in which young men drew the names of women from a jar. The couple would then be, um, coupled up for the duration of the festival – or longer, if the match was right. Let me replay the ensuing conversation: EMMA:… Read More

I think I’ll have to establish some rules if I’m to continue working on two series at once: 1) No cross-series bickering. (The alarm clock interrupt a bickering match between Hector from Fantasy Heights Season Two and David from Calais County book 3.) 2) No cross-series flirting. (The bickering match above was caused by Hector flirting with both heroines from Calais County books two and three.) Yet more proof that writing is among the strangest professions…
