That Didn’t Take Long

Das inbox says I’m not quite done answering questions yet. Q: What ever happened to The Nights of Yes? A: The Nights of Yes is a standalone erotic romance that has been back-burnered while I work on Fantasy Heights. Someday I’ll get the story into fighting shape. I swear it, though so far, the only progress made is the purchase of the cover art image. Q: You said something about a paranormal standalone?A: Yep. Its working title is The Dead Machine, which will obviously have to change. It’s connected to Fantasy Heights in a wildly roundabout fashion. The connection has to do with a certain contraption seen in Wish Her Well. Aside from these… Read More

Where You Least Expect It

FAQ Day! Q: Why does it take so long to write an episode?A: I can show you part of the reason. I spent most of my weekend staring at this: That’s one corner of the storyboard wall where I keep track of characters and conflicts. It’s weird, but sometimes it helps to be able to stand up, pace, and physically move pieces and parts around. And all of this so that no one can say “I totally knew that would happen.” (I can’t show the rest of the storyboard because someone *cough* HUSBAND *cough* wrote something lewd over to the right in black permanent marker.) Another reason for the lulls between… Read More

This Is How We Do It

Okay, so last week was pretty much a blur; many hours in the predictive analysis phase of development. (That’s snooty-talk code for “lots of hours in front of ye olde drawing board, staring off into space, getting frustrated and finally asking the dog how to make parts of books eight and nine suck less.” He had some great ideas, though most of them had to do with birds, squirrels, car rides and me throwing things. There was a blue balls joke there — racquetballs, people — but it’s Monday and I try to avoid the cheap ones on Monday.) This week, I fear, will be much the same. But at least… Read More

Check The Eyebrow

I’m having one of those weirdly wonderful, synergistic bizarro moments:Wish Her Well is #477 in the overall Amazon “paid” rankings right now.Help Wanted is #477 in the overall Amazon “free” rankings right now. I guess we know what my lucky number for the day is. o.OOr I could have a “fetch” moment, and instead of saying five-by-five, I’ll say it’s all four-seven-seven. (My job rocks.)

Holiday Week

Writing. Today I have to work on a scene I’ve been putting off for sheer dread, so it’ll be a long one. Looking ahead at this week, like most people in the US, I’ll be out of the office most of Wednesday and all of Thursday for Thanksgiving. I will be in-office Friday and likely Saturday to make up the difference. To borrow boldly from Goethe, be bold, and mighty forces will come to your aid.

Carved In (grind)Stone

Wow, what a release week! I mentioned it on Twitter, but it’s worth mentioning here, too, that Fantasy Heights readers are the best. And for those of you who have been kind enough to post reviews already, thank you. I truly appreciate you taking the time. Naturally, I’m already getting deluged in the inbox about book 8 and when it might be released. I would love to try to beat a Christmas deadline, but based on what happened last time and the projected length of this episode, I might also require a Christmas miracle to get 8 launched by then. So I guess… We’ll see? Lame answer, but it’s the… Read More
